Autumn is one of the most photogenic times in the Apennines. You do not need to chase only the best-known viewpoints: often the best photograph is found along a minor road or at the edge of a wood.
Look for a variety of colours
Beeches, chestnuts and other trees change colour at different times, creating interesting contrasts even within the same wood.
Make the most of soft light
Cloudy days are excellent for photographing autumn colours because they soften contrast and make colours easier to read.
Do not photograph only the landscape
Leaves, bark, trails, water and small details can tell the story of autumn better than a wide view.
